The world famous Régates Royales, organised by the Yacht Club de Cannes, takes place from 22nd to 29th September and sees over 200 classic yachts cruise into Cannes! Around 70 Dragon boats will race in the Bay of Cannes, just across from the Lérins Islands, and wow the spectators watching from the shore!
Thousands of crew members from around the world will display their talents in the races, and also their dedication and discipline to their vessels: many of the boats on show are classed as world maritime heritage, which takes years of restoration and upkeep to ensure pristine condition for shows around the globe. The huge crowds will undoubtedly show their appreciation for these legendary yachts!
This year, the Regatta will celebrate it’s landmark 40th edition and Yacht Club de Cannes president Jacques Flori is confident it will be an amazing event: “We will take particular care of this event... to make it a success, a complete and unforgettable festive event”.
The first ever Cannes Regatta event was actually held in 1929, which paid tribute to King Christian of Denmark, however the event was re-inaugurated by Cannes born sailor Phillipe Monnet in 1978 and has been present ever since.
Good luck to all competitors who will fight for the Panerai Trophée! The Regatta is expected to be one of the most attended events in Cannes all year - all information can be found on the Régates Royales website.
